Case Study: Showcase for Luxury Hotel Lobby
Client: The five-star W Hotel in downtown Atlanta
Challenge: Create the lobby focal point—a unique spiral staircase built of one-half inch steel plates with varying radii from top to bottom.
Solution: For this turnkey project, we fabricated, delivered and installed the staircase with our own talented craftsmen and brought in a glass fabricator to make the custom glass guardrail.
Our field measurements indicated that we would need to build the staircase in four sections to fit through the lobby front doors. Each piece was 5 feet wide by 18 feet high and weighed 1500 pounds. The staircase was fabricated and assembled in our large shop and then taken apart for delivery to the job site. Wheels were placed under each piece, which was then winched onto an auto wrecker platform truck.
After successfully clearing the lobby doors, the staircase was reassembled in place by our skilled installers. Scaffolding and four winches were used to move each piece into place, where they were then welded together and each weld was inspected by a professional testing company. The meticulous installation process was completed with the addition of a stainless steel handrail.
